Abstract

This study explores the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools among students at IPGKBM. A survey of 30 students was conducted to understand their familiarity with AI, the tools they use, and the benefits they perceive. The results showed that most students are familiar with AI and actively use tools such as ChatGPT, Grammarly, and Google Translate for tasks like writing, research, and translation. Students reported using AI tools mostly on a weekly or daily basis, with many recognizing AI's value in improving productivity and supporting study planning. The majority expressed interest in having more AI tools integrated into their academic resources. This suggests that AI is becoming an important part of students’ learning processes and can help improve their academic performance.


Introduction

Artificial Intelligence (AI) is a transformative field of computer science that enables machines to mimic human intelligence by performing tasks such as learning, reasoning, problem-solving, perception, and language understanding. Elon Musk (2014), said a vocal critic of AI, has repeatedly warned about the existential threats posed by superintelligent machines, emphasizing the need for careful regulation to prevent catastrophe. At the same time, Stephen Hawking (2018) said the late theoretical physicist, also recognized AI's vast potential but cautioned that without proper oversight, it could outpace humanity’s ability to control it, raising fundamental ethical and existential questions. Bill Gates (2019), shares similar concerns, advocating for the careful regulation of AI to ensure it benefits society while mitigating the risks of job displacement and misuse. AI stands at the forefront of technological innovation, with the potential to solve some of humanity's most complex problems, such as climate change, disease diagnosis, and resource management. As society continues to integrate AI into various domains, its development demands a balance between innovation and responsibility to maximize benefits while mitigating risks.

The Role of Artificial Intelligence in Enhancing Academic Experiences at IPGKBM

Artificial Intelligence (AI) is becoming a popular tool for students to improve their academic work. A survey conducted with 30 students at IPGKBM shows how AI tools are used and their impact on academic performance. Let’s look at the results and understand what they tell us about the role of AI in students’ lives.

         AI has become one of the most widely used technologies across various fields, including education. Among the students at IPGKBM, the use of AI tools is no longer something unusual. This survey aims to explore how familiar students are with AI, how they use it, and what benefits they perceive in their studies. Based on the data collected, it is clear that AI has a significant impact on making learning processes more efficient and improving the quality of education for students.


     Based on the question 1, the survey found that 25 out of 30 students considered themselves "familiar" with AI, while 5 students regarded themselves as "somewhat familiar." This shows that most students at IPGKBM have a high level of awareness about AI. The widespread use of AI in daily life, such as through smartphones and voice assistants, likely contributes to their familiarity. The smaller group of "somewhat familiar" students indicates that while they have a basic understanding of AI, they may not yet fully realize its potential applications in education. Next question 2, when asked whether they have used AI tools in their studies, all 30 students answered yes. This indicates that AI has become an integral part of their academic routines. AI is no longer just an additional tool but has become a primary resource for supporting academic tasks, such as writing, research, and translation. The consistent use of AI in their learning reflects that students see AI as a valuable asset in achieving academic success. Besides that question 3, Students were asked about which AI tools they have used, and the results showed that ChatGPT, Grammarly, and Google Translate were the most commonly used applications. Ten students reported using all three tools, while others used different combinations. ChatGPT was mainly used for generating content, assisting with writing, and idea development. Grammarly was used for proofreading and improving the quality of writing, while Google Translate helped with translation tasks. Some students also used Gemini and Canva Pro, which suggests that they are exploring AI tools for creative and design purposes as well. This variety in tools indicates that AI is being utilized in different aspects of their studies, not just for writing but also for research and creativity. After that question 4, regarding how often AI tools are used, 18 students reported using them weekly, 11 students used them daily, and only 1 student used them monthly. The high frequency of usage indicates that AI has become a significant part of students’ academic workflows. Daily users likely depend on AI for regular tasks, while weekly users may use AI for specific assignments or research projects. The monthly user suggests that AI is not yet essential for all students but is still valuable for certain academic tasks. Subsequently, when asked how AI benefits their studies, the majority of students (13) mentioned research, writing, and translation, while 10 students also highlighted study planning as a benefit. AI tools help students quickly access information, generate content, and overcome language barriers. The mention of study planning suggests that AI could also be used to organize assignments, set reminders, or track progress, further enhancing the learning experience. Finally, when asked if they would like to see more AI tools integrated into their study resources at IPGKBM, 28 students answered yes, and 2 answered maybe. This shows a strong interest in further integration of AI, with students eager to explore more AI tools that could improve their learning experience.


        Based on the survey results, it is clear that students at IPGKBM are well-versed in AI and actively use it in their academic studies. AI is viewed as a valuable tool for improving writing, research, translation, and study planning. With strong enthusiasm for further AI integration into study resources, students show a positive attitude toward the role of AI in education. Therefore, it is evident that AI will continue to play an important role in learning and teaching at IPGKBM, providing students with powerful tools to enhance their academic success.

         In this era of modernization, artificial intelligence (AI) technology has become an integral element that cannot be separated from daily life, especially in the world of education. The rapid development of AI has transformed the way we learn, how we access information, and has made various tasks that once required hard effort much easier. As a student, I have utilized various AI technologies that have greatly helped expand my understanding and accelerate the learning process such as Google Translate, Google Lens, Gamma, Jawi e-Makmur, ChatGPT, and Canva


          First of all is Google Translate. Google translate has become an essential tool in learning foreign languages. With its advanced translation technology, I am able to understand foreign languages more easily and effectively. For instance, when I encounter an English article or text that is somewhat difficult to understand, I simply enter the passage into Google Translate, and it precisely converts it into Malay. This process not only speeds up my understanding but also saves me from having to open a dictionary or search for the meaning of each word manually. Besides that is Gamma. Gamma is an incredibly helpful tool for creating engaging and effective presentations. By using Gamma, I am able to design presentation slides equipped with captivating graphics and animations. his tool is especially helpful when I need to prepare presentations for projects or assignments, as it not only saves time but also ensures that the final result looks professional, well-organized, and capable of capturing the audience's attention. After that is Jawi e-Makmur. Jawi e-Makmur is a learning platform that utilizes AI technology to help students understand and learn Jawi script more effectively. This tool enables me to type text in Rumi, and it automatically converts it into Jawi script with accuracy. It is especially helpful when I need to complete assignments that require the use of Jawi, as it not only saves time but also ensures the correctness of my writing. Furthermore, Jawi e-Makmur offers interactive exercises that help reinforce and deepen my understanding of Jawi script. Subsequently, ChatGPT is one of the most useful AI tools in my studies. With its ability to understand and answer questions on a wide range of topics, I frequently use this tool to help generate ideas for essay writing, conduct research, or gain clarification on complex topics. ChatGPT also assists in coming up with new ideas for assignments or projects that require critical thinking. As a result, with this tool, the learning process becomes more interactive and enjoyable, as I no longer need to rely solely on books or other reading materials, but can get instant answers simply by asking. Lastly, Canva is one of the AI tools I frequently use in my studies, especially when I need to create posters, infographics, and presentations with attractive and professional designs. This is because Canva allows me to collaborate with classmates or group members on a project, where we can edit and refine the designs simultaneously. This makes group work more efficient and seamless. Canva also offers a wide range of templates that cater to various needs, from academic reports to creative presentations, ensuring that every assignment produced looks professional and meets the required standards. As a result, I can create engaging learning materials in a short amount of time


        In conclusion, the use of AI in learning has had a significant impact on the way I study and manage assignments. AI tools such as Google Translate, Google Lens, Gamma, Jawi e-Makmur, ChatGPT, and Canva not only facilitate the learning process but also make learning more engaging and interactive. I believe that with the continued development of AI technology, the future of education will be brighter and more innovative, offering more opportunities for students like me to learn more effectively and enjoyably.
